DANS VAN 1000 HANDEN

Thousand Hand Guan Yin was a dance created by Chinese choreographer Zhang Jigang. This dance
was performed by 63 deaf dancers of China Disabled People's Performing Art Troupe. Because they
could not hear the music, there were 6 directors in white cloths helping them synchronizing with
the music. This dance described the legend that Bodhisattva Guan Yin has one thousand hands.
Bodhisattva is a Proto-Buddha. She can not become a Buddha because she is still attached to this
world. Her vow: If there is still a single drop of tear in this world, I will not become a Buddha.

Kwan Yin is known as the merciful Goddess of the East Asian Buddhist traditions - with a
thousand arms to comfort those who are in a personal struggle and challenge. To the Taoists she is
an immortal Goddess. She took vows to be a Bodhisattva as the immortal embodiment of
compassion and kindness and to hear the cries of people suffering, the sound of lamentation. As an
immortal being, Kwan Yin is androgynous and in some Buddhist Temples is portrayed as a young
man -- Avalokiteshvara in whose lineage the Dalai Lama is from. In China she is portrayed as a
young woman in a white robe with a vase of water in her right hand and a willow branch in her left
hand and the crown of the Amitabha Buddha on her head. Kwan Yin has links to Mother Mary, Isis,
the White Buffalo Woman and many other cosmologies and myths. Her energies are very much
needed in this time.

Gwan Yin staat bekend als de genadige godin van de Oost-Aziatische boeddhistische tradities - met
duizend armen troost ze hen die met persoonlijke strijd en uitdagingen te maken hebben.  Voor de
taoïsten is ze een onsterfelijke godin. Ze deed de gelofte om een Bodhisattva te zijn als de
onsterfelijke belichaming van medeleven en vriendelijkheid en de kreten te horen van mensen die
lijden, het geluid van hun jammerklachten. Als een onsterfelijk wezen, Gwan Yin is androgyn en
wordt in sommige boeddhistische tempels afgebeeld als een jonge man--Avalokiteshvara uit wiens
geslacht de Dalai Lama voortkomt. In China wordt ze afgebeeld als een jonge vrouw in een witte
robe met een vaas met water in haar rechterhand en een wilgentak in haar linkerhand en de kroon
van de Amitabha Buddha op haar hoofd. Gwan Yin wordt vergeleken met Moeder Maria, Isis, de
White Buffalo Woman en vele andere kosmologieën en mythen. Haar energieën zijn hard nodig in
deze tijd.
